New volume shows how key exams are developed

Cambridge ESOL is pleased to announce a new volume in the Studies in Language Testing (SiLT) series. This series of more than 25 academic volumes is edited by Dr Michael Milanovic and Prof Cyril J Weir and is jointly published by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations and Cambridge University Press (CUP). It addresses a wide range of issues and developments in language assessment and is read by test users, developers and researchers.

In Volume 28 - entitled 'Examining FCE and CAE: Key issues and recurring themes in developing the First Certificate in English and Certificate in Advanced English exams' – Roger Hawkey describes the development of two of Cambridge ESOL’s best-known examinations.The book includes a unique set of First Certificate in English (FCE) and Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) test versions, from the original tests in 1939 and 1991 through various revision projects to the updated formats of 2008. This new volume will be of interest to language testing researchers, academic lecturers, educational policy-makers, and anyone concerned with researching language teaching, learning and assessment.


The next SiLT volume is due out in mid 2009 and will be entitled: Examining Reading: Research and practice in assessing second language reading by Hanan Khalifa and Cyril J Weir.
