Largest provider of private educational services in China to offer Cambridge’s Young Learners English Tests
20 November 2008
New Oriental Education and Technology Group Inc – the largest provider of private educational services in China – will now be offering Cambridge ESOL’s Young Learners English Tests (YLE) throughout mainland China. This development complements the existing network of centres in the country which has seen close to 2 million candidates taking YLE since its launch in 1997 – making it the most influential exam for young learners of English in China.
This is the result of an agreement between New Oriental Education and Technology Group Inc and the Sino-British Academic Exchange Center for Education Measurement (SBC) – Cambridge ESOL’s sole YLE representative in China.
YLE is taken by hundreds of thousands of students each year throughout the world. Students aged between 7 and 12 are measured on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. The test consists of three levels: Starters, Movers, and Flyers.
Dr. Mike Milanovic, Chief Executive for Cambridge ESOL welcomed the agreement between SBC and New Oriental, and spoke of the benefits of YLE:
“YLE is unique in that it caters to the particular needs of parents and children in the Chinese education environment, while at the same time providing students with international recognition for their language achievements”.
The exams will begin to be administered in 13 cities from December 2008.
